The famous hotel Macedonia Palace at the waterfront of Thessaloniki usually hosts our cocktail evenings.
No matter how down-to-earth you are, you are bound to feel a quiver under your skin at the rare image of the sun setting into serene Mediterranean waters. Strolling along the coastal pedestrian road of my home city a few weeks ago, the friendly southern sun followed my footsteps as it descended gracefully into a miraculous drapery of red, cyan, pink and violet shades.
The fully renovated parks with their manicured lawns, the imposing flying sculptured umbrellas by Zongolopoulos, the Moon figure pondering over the water of the port, the brand new symmetrical sail-like lampposts which created a summery 5-star resort feel along the city waterfront and the industrial view on the harbor completed the picture. The laughing and teasing children, the vibrant pop corn vendors and the sea eagles were music to our ears. It was the perfect end to a romantic walk with a partner that shares a deep love for the place we first met... It was the ideal setting for a late spring cocktail on the terrace of the luxurious but so familiar Macedonia Palace.
Luckily, the northern sun is looking to a west which doesn't turn down a flirt with the waves. Down-to-earth as I try to be, I like to think that this is only to make me crave more for my next journey to my heart-warming Thessaloniki. Enjoy the view:
