You can find anything in Knokke. After having tasted life here for almost a decade, I have already embraced that notion and have grown quite fond of it. But even I can still be astounded. The grandiose Parthenon inevitably was the eye-catcher that forced my head to turn twice towards the window of a new clothes boutique on the busy main shopping street. Was it a Greek brand? The allusion to my homeland somehow touched a string and I had to unveil the story behind the brand “Myrine”, the name alluding to the first queen of the legendary Greek warrior tribe the “Amazons”. Looking at the Fall/Winter 2017 creations of Myrine-Antwerp, one can see a certain maturity in the choice of colors. Mostly solid burgundy red, green and purple – the latter with an underlying grayish tint. Last but not least, the classic broken white and black. Very few patterns are used, with impressionistic, water-color- like florals prevailing. A certain roughness in the choice of material - like the thick natural wool - is evident, but it is balanced by touches of femininity in discreet beading, and some fine, semi-transparent shirt fabrics. In the lookbook, boyish accessories such as loosely-tight, flat booties and thick, multi-buckled belts, as well as purposefully exaggerated layering like a loose hooded, knitted cardigan worn over a dress and over a skirt or pants – a trademark of Myrine – create an adventurous, nomad feel. ![]() Contemporary women are Amazons. Just likε Queen Myrine, we have multiple roles in our daily routines. Mothers, wives, lovers, professionals, house managers, we change face throughout the day, and naturally, outfits. This is the concept of Myrine which shows the universality of Greek mythology. It reflects the needs and attitude of the modern woman, who wants to be functional but also interesting in terms of stylistic choices. With the layering technique you can get dressed from morning till night, gradually removing elements to reveal an evening outfit, for instance. By adding or removing accessories, you can transform your look from rough to elegant and vice-versa. Amazons, the emancipated women of their times, were seductive creatures. After all, aren’t dynamism and wild femaleness qualities that can attract a Hercules in winter 2017? Let’s dress to kill and see…
