My affair with the sphere of art and design dates back to my teenage years. Such a strong bond is highly unlikely to be weakened in time. In fact, it is becoming increasingly tighter by the day. Every trip, every new experience adds up to my personal reflections of images, notes, brushstrokes and evokes feelings, as well as simple or complex thoughts that broaden my perception of human nature. Recently, this explorative force drove me to add two more designer names to my list of discoveries.
Last Saturday, the "day after tomorrow" or - plainly said - the recovery day after the grand “Nacht van 't Zoute” (Night of Zoute) in Knokke with its legendary late night shopping events and afterparties, I had the chance to join the fabulous garden party "L' Affaire du Zoute" (the case of Zoute). Private and only by invitation, the event was organized by nutrition expert and personal trainer Helena Herbosch (H3), notary Christophe Strypsteen (S3) and Nicolas De Smet (InstaJobs) who transformed the Rabbit District garden in Zoutelaan into an afternoon reception expo. Friends and colleagues had the opportunity to taste nougat creations, freshly made yoghurt ice-cream, chocolates and meat delicacies, as well as the delicious refreshing Dictator’s Juices approved and branded by Helena herself. The live music by Jeggpap Jazzband and the subtle floral decorations by Muguet Flowers were in accordance to the elegant presence of the hosts and the exclusively selected guests.
Naturally, despite my admiration towards Helena's figure and knowledge on dietary matters, what caught my eye had little to do with nutrition affairs. The exhibitors that stood out for me were Nathalie Noël with her voguish handmade double-sided silk scarf creations in the style of known haute couture houses, and designer Stefano Zamuner with his brand Mess of Blues who introduced his water-based hair pomade, perfume, combs, colorful scarves and ties, all characterized by the expected Italian finesse and dynamism that linger in the mind long after triggering the nose sensors or the eyes. Smartly, functionality was added to the pochette scarf as its thicker material allows a gentleman to carry no other accessory to polish his glasses.
I suppose that each guest already had their own passionate affair directed to different things, such as the magic car spa by Protech, or the flashy vodka and champagne bottles by Gert K. It is also possible that they developed a new interest after visiting that miniature garden of Eden, where all luxuries but smoking and heavy drinking were allowed - it would take real guts to argue with the health dictator. Whichever the case, I witnessed some very engaged faces, who were open to new experiences and mingled with everyone. And that to me was no other affair, but that of sweet success.
