Dumortierlaan in Knokke has recently been upgraded to a baby shower paradise. Luxury Baby is the newly emerging brand by designer Imka that aims at making you and your newborn feel like royalty. In modern Belgium a few extra amenities, good service and product quality, along with high-end materials are not the exclusive privilege of the blue-blooded, right? For the expecting mother it is pure joy to step into this miniature world of luxury. Let's be honest, you sort of miss that feeling when you have to carry several additional pounds, walk on uncomfortably swollen ankles and instead of your otherwise precious spa weekends have to spend your spare time on delivery breathing classes.
When Imka greets you in her store, you sense her genuine affection for her work and her customers. Smiling, attentive, always impeccably fashionable with the right portion of motherly and girly, and - most of all - tireless. A few weeks ago, despite her long pleated salmon pink mousseline skirt, she ran the extra mile to attend to my specific request for a much adored customized retro stroller. Her witty eyes and her well-manicured fingers moved hastily across the pages of the Bebecar brochures until we came up with the perfect combination for my little girl whose upbringing will certainly comply with the esthetics of elegance, art and design.
This mutual understanding we shared for the beauty of simplicity and purity in design, led me to appreciate her. The logo is indicative of the style, a mix of luxurious and royal but in clear, quiet, contemporary lines that do not spoil the heavenly silence of a nursery. You can find the logo on several items, one of which is the pillow in the shape of a soft, fluffy cloud in three color versions. As an option, the name of your child can be engraved in silver. In the store you can find a sample created for my very own princess.
Some highlights of the store are definitely the Bebecar strollers in a variety of versions, such as the vintage carriage in Chanel-style tweed, the magic cloth models for stainless carefreeness, and the embroidered floral or waffle leather strollers. Apart from their extraordinary design, they offer great suspension, protection and comfort.
The leather Chesterfield armchairs in multiple leather textures and colors will steal your heart and the toddler-sized Bentley and Mercedes for your baby’s first steps will take you a few months forward. “Is this good parenting?” one concerned parent might wonder. Are we raising standards at too early an age? If you ask me, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. It’s mostly the irony behind it that makes it sweet and funny to us adults and it is the natural love for action that makes it exciting to them children. Since a two-year old knows nothing about horse power or polished front bonnet statuettes, I do not believe a little fun would harm anyone’s perception of life’s ideals. On the contrary, a royal treat spices up life and makes it even more enjoyable.
Would you grant yourself this fairy dust of happiness? Visit Luxury Baby at 111 Dumortierlaan in Knokke to make up your own mind…
